Elizabeth Engelhardt Receives Barbara Sudler Award

The staff of History Colorado, the Colorado Historical Society, and two judges have determined the winner of the tenth biennial Barbara Sudler Award to be Republic of Barbecue: Stories Beyond the Brisket by Elizabeth S. D. Engelhardt (University of Texas Press). The award, presented for a work of nonfiction on a western American subject by a female author, will be presented at History Colorado’s annual meeting in Denver on October 27.
The Barbara Sudler Award is named in honor of the Colorado Historical Society’s former president, Barbara Sudler Hornby, who maintained an active interest in historical issues and was an avid reader of western American literature.
