Departmental Awards
The Department of Geography and The Environment maintains a number of annual awards to recognize outstanding students in the discipline at UT. The Department recognizes three graduate students and one undergraduate based on their outstanding work. Each recognition is associated with a monetary award and the names are inscribed on the awards plaque located in the departmental main office.

The Undergraduate Award
Given to a undergraduate major in the department, it is based on a combination of academic excellence and leadership.
The Achievement Award
Given to a graduate student in the department for excellence in research, publication, and institution building.
The Leadership Award
Given to a graduate student in the department, it is based on leadership in departmental activities
The Teaching Award
Given to a graduate student in the department, it is based on student evaluations and faculty recommendations
Historical Awards
The Graduate Award
The Graduate Award was later broken up into multiple awards recognizing the different characteristics of excellent graduate students in the department. Established in in 1985, the award was given annually untill 1997 to an outstanding graduate student.
The Chairman's Award
The Chairman's Award was given annually between 1982 and 1984, to recognize outstanding graduate students.
The Research Award
The Research Award was given annual between 1982 and 1984, to recognize an outstanding research preformed by graduate students.
