Server and Network Projects
2012-13 Liberal Arts Lab, Classroom, and Network/Server Upgrade Proposals
Deadline: Noon on Monday, March 26, 2012
Servers
While the College of Liberal Arts and Liberal Arts ITS strongly recommend the use of central university systems, limited funding is available for departmental network servers. Proposals must demonstrate the need for a department-based server, clearly describe the instructional value of the server, and include a plan for systems administration, including: security, data backup, and sources for recurring salary costs. Projects must be of primary benefit to students in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.
Funding is available for:
- Equipment
- One-time software costs
- Programming
- System setup and configuration
- Electrical, HVAC, and other server-related renovation
- Network upgrades (see Networks)
Funding is NOT available for:
- Recurring software and maintenance contracts
- Recurring salary, wages, supply, and M&O costs
Networks
The College of Liberal Arts is committed to providing a fast, robust computer network. If your project requires network additions or upgrades, please contact
James Lewis to discuss details. James will submit a separate note estimating network costs for you. Network costs or details in your proposal are not required. Simply describe in general terms the required upgrade in the project description. You should provide detailed reasons for the upgrade. In the 'itemized budget' section of the proposal form, simply enter "network upgrade." If your proposal is approved, Liberal Arts ITS will perform all project details, including: design, purchasing, and installation.
