DeBeauvoir was elected Travis County Clerk in 1987 and was presented with the Distinguished Public Service Award in 2002. Since her election, DeBeauvoir has overseen polls in Travis County and served as the official record keeper for the county courts at law and the commissioner’s court.

In 1994 and 1996, DeBeauvoir assisted in two historic elections in Bosnia and South Africa. Her trips, sponsored by the International Foundation of Election Systems and by the United Nations, were part of an initiative to help develop free and fair election practices in countries with emerging democracies.

DeBeauvoir has been credited with modernizing the Travis County Clerk’s office during her time in office. She is also known for her work in promoting voter turnout, improving the elections process, protecting public records, and making public information more accessible.
